Calorie Cycling: a way for your body to keep guessing!
As you get further along in the diet your body starts to adapt. Your goal should be to trick it into NOT adapting. The best way to do this is to calorie cycle. Some people will do high then low and alternate throughout the week. Personally, I like to have high, moderate and low calorie days. I rotate my calories based on my workouts (ie Legs and Back take the most energy SO I consume the most calories those days).
Don't do this! This goes for any dieting technique ...
Don't drop your calories too much, your body will fight back by slowing your metabolism down. I see a lot of people taking diets to the extreme. They figure "If I decrease the amount of calories by twice as much then I will see twice the difference" ... that's a chance I'm not willing to take.
The idea is to trick the body - not shock it! If you shock your body it will shut down by decreasing your metabolism and reducing your energy levels, making it hard to lose calories or even workout. Your body does this to protect itself.
Today is the 4th day into my new diet and I'm still feeling the effects of my high calorie day yesterday. I knew it would spill over into my low calorie day, but I didn't realize how much. I've gone all day without being hungry. I should have posted my morning breakfast pancake, it took up a whole skillet!!! Jason called it my mega-pancake and asked if I planned on eating all of it. Oh, I did ... and more!
